time: 2010-10-30
The Israeli army is being kitted out with the latest technology to combat one of the organisation's biggest issues: foot problems, according to a range of reports.
Odour-free socks are bring given to every soldier serving on the front line as the hot temperatures are causing many sweating peds, resulting in discomfort leading to conditions such as athlete's foot and other ailments that can be avoided with improved hygiene.
Brigadier-General Nissim Peretz, commander of Israeli military logistics, said of the decision to provide socks: "It may sound ridiculous, but this is a very important issue that causes many problems during training."
Many ice hockey players in the US-based National Hockey League are currently considering changing their socks too, with Kevlar-enhanced hosiery now available to protect their feet from errant skate boot blades and other such dangers.
